1. Shelter

Underneath the dazzling A’DAM tower, Shelter forms the funkiest music spot on the north side of het IJ. It’s Amsterdam’s youngest haven for quality dance music, built around the idea of creating a home away from home for veteran clubbers and enthusiastic newcomers alike. A high-end basement club with a killer sound system, easily the best in town.

Don’t miss: Rush Hour, the Amsterdam record label/store showcases its finest artists, like Antal, Tom Trago & San Proper. Thursday, Oct 19, 23.00 till 08.00.

2. Casco Amsterdam

Can you name a more spot-on location for a great rave than a huge warehouse with high ceilings? Casco Amsterdam is in its normal life a film studio and a place for theater but during ADE it turns into Alice’s Wonderland, with great showcases and events, fitting 2000 party people. The sound will be as you expect in a warehouse: massive.

Don’t miss: Wonderland Festival ADE Special on Friday oct 20 and Saturday oct 21, from 22.00 till 08.00, wiith -amongst many others- Erick Morillo on friday and Surgeon on saturday.

3. Oak

Quite a new player in town, OaK is your typical dark basement-style rave club, with an industrial concrete DJ booth, no pictures policy, and excellent resident DJ’s. OaK is aiming for the true music lover. The beats blast through a custom made 4 way sound system.

Don’t miss: MVDZ invites Afro Acid has world famous DJ’s Sneak and Pierre from the US of A spinning at OaK, combined with local hero Lucien Foort, Friday 21 Oct between 23 and 08.00.

4. Het Concertgebouw

Not just the wild clubs are part of Amsterdam Dance Event, the famous Concertgebouw, ranking top 3 of best concert venues for classical music in the world, is part of it too. Don’t expect loud beats here – previous dance parties have caused damage to the building – but you will find exquisite pristine minimal sounds by top-notch modern Scandinavian composers Kiasmos (Ólafur Arnalds) and Grandbrothers.

Don’t miss: Kiasmos Live, Saturday Oct 21, 23.30 till 02.00.

5. De School

Still the coolest of all the Amsterdam clubs is De School. Famous for its ‘no frills’ hipster style, and great taste in music. During ADE your chance of actually making it into De School is bigger than ever because they just won’t stop till you get enough. Open from Friday night until monday morning, in both rooms and with all kinds of good sounds for your ears.

Don’t miss: finish off your ADE Sunday 22 Oct at De School, with sets of Young Marco, Lucy and Avalon Emerson. Till Monday morning 09.00.

Shades of comfort: why earplugs are the new sunglasses

Why earplugs are the new sunglassesDo you love covering your eyes with a good looking pair of sunnies? This might sound weird, but chances are that your ears are next. Very flexible and in style, too. It’s about 100 years ago, that sunglasses became a commonly used item. First used by movie stars, they soon became a fashion item. But now we can’t imagine a life without these visual lifesavers. They protect our eyes against the harsh light of the sun ánd the harmful UV-A and UV-B rays that can cause skin cancer.
